We are AKC breeders of H.E.A.R.T. with over 20 years’ experience. We adhere to both the AKC & GRCA code of ethics, with a reputation for breeding quality golden retriever puppies. All Golden retriever puppies are AKC registered, health certified on both sides & cleared by veterinarian before leaving our home.
About Saddle Brook Goldens
Originally started in Staatsburg NY, we quickly became a top golden retriever breeder, breeding only one to two litters a year. All of our golden retrievers must have the conformation & health clearances to be a part of our breeding program. We focus on temperament as we have a concentration in therapy/service dogs. We believe in breeding the best golden retriever puppy possible.
Over the past 20 years we have spent both time on the east & west coast. Currently we are operating outside the DC area in northern Virginia. We have many clients here, locally & throughout the country & are happy to help in brining your puppy home.
We do not ship puppies alone but can help make arrangements to bring a puppy to you, whether you are located on the east or west coast. Health
Saddle Brook Goldens & any dog we breed to must have solid hip & elbow clearances, determined by the OFA (orthopedic foundation for animals). Hearts are cleared by an OFA cardiologist & ophthalmologist certify eyes thru CERF, (canine eye registration foundation). Additionally, we do the golden panel for genetic screening. We continually look to AKC (American Kennel Club) & GRCA Golden Retriever Club of America for current guidelines & standards for any new breed specific clearances or testing that should be done. Over the last couple of years, we have added genetic screenings & blood work panels to ensure the success of our future breeding’s. We are now breeding dogs that are a part of the OFA CHIC program. Don’t take a breeder’s word for it, look at the certifications. Click on the link, to see our most recent girls genetic screening and OFA, CHIC certifications, keep in mind anyone can add info to an online database. CHIC certificates also only states that all required tests have been done by specialists, IE cardiologists & ophthalmologist but a Chic certificate doesn’t mean that they have passed. It is important to research the results of the test as shown on our links.
Having worked with show jumpers & goldens my entire life, I know the importance of good conformation. Many breeders do not have the eye or the understanding of this. When animals do not have proper conformation, you are exposing the dog to unnecessary stress on the body, inflammation & a predisposition for joint & ligament problems.
The stud dogs we choose, not only have to have all needed clearances but they must also complement & improve on our line in some way. We look at every detail, down to the teeth & bite of a dog. We do this to ensure the health, success & future of our golden retriever line.

Temperament
Temperament plays a significant role in our golden retriever puppies. As breeders we take a large responsibility for the early development of their temperament from birth. From the moment these pups are born, we are there at mom’s side helping & being a part of the delivery process. Each litter is born in our home & they are a part of our family.
As the pups grow older, they are not only socialized, but they are also being stimulated on a daily basis. We are constantly playing with them & taking them out as they grow & mature. Our living room is converted to a puppy play area, with non slip rubber mats & introduced to many toys of different textures, colors & shapes to promote play. We live our day to day lives around them & include them in our activities because of this they are used to noises, vacuums & day to day life. Many nights the pups can be found sitting with us on the couch. With a focus on temperament for service-based homes, we do puppy testing & evaluations to ensure each puppy is placed in the best possible home.
